Akon’s new project, Akon City is expected to be in full shape by 2025. The legendary singer was gifted a 2,000 acres of landing his home country by the President of Senegal, Macky Sall. The City will have a solar power, own its currency and also its airport.
One of the icings on the cake is that the city would trade in Akon’s own currency, AKoin. The singer revealed a photo showing him with a few dignitaries displaying a document that seems to affirm the approval of the project.
Nick Cannon interviewed him about is Akon City plans, Akon said;
“It’s a 10-year building block, so we’re doing it in stages. We started construction in March, and stage two is going to be 2025,’
Akon added, revealing his displeasure about his people suffering. He said:
“If you can have a billion dollars sitting in the bank, while you have all these people suffering, it’s crazy to me. It’s like a waste of a billion dollars.”
Akon secured $1 billion in credit line in 2016, which is to back his solar project. This helped in making electricity available to six hundred million Africans.
