Daddies may be able to breastfeed their babies soon

Something new and interesting is out for Daddies on breastfeeding. How will African men, especially Nigerian men digest this? Well, in London, some university students believe they’ve come up with a way for dads to breastfeed their babies.

The idea behind the innovation is for Moms to be assisted by Dads in breastfeeding their kids.

The product – “chestfeeding kit”,  is expected to help moms who are struggling to breastfeed or moms who may be too sick or incapacitated after childbirth.

According to the product-designer:

While the innovation is still in the stage of its conception, the chestfeeding kit is not tested yet.

It contains a cocktail of hormones that the father is expected take while his partner is heavy with their baby. This would help in order to “grow milk ducts”.  The main hormone is progestin, which is a form of the female sex hormone progesterone, helps to stimulate the production of milk-producing glands.

This would be proceeded by a round of domperidone, often given to moms experiencing difficulties with breastfeeding as it encourages  and helps the production of prolactin – a hormone which tells the woman’s body to produce milk.

The chestfeeding kit also contains a pump and a compression vest. This is very similar to a maternity bra.

Now until the man stops taking the female hormones, the man would keep growing “moobs” or man boobs, up to a b cup.

The product-designer, Marie-Claire hopes her idea will help to stop some fathers from feeling left out when raising their baby.

The design Marie-Claire put up for the kit recently won an award at the Meaning-Centred Design Awards.

Marie-Claire believes that the kit would be available for public use in five years time.
