You may have read or heard this interesting story before now, but the reality is that, without imbibing the raw truth this story has got to offer, you may roll in and out of every year without you making any significant progress as you should. A Young man violated his King’s instructions. The penalty weighed on him thereafter was death. And you know what? His execution was to come in one of the most inhumane form. Young man was to be Beheaded!
His heartbeat stopped for a moment. Everything around him stopped. His life was closing in on him. Young man knew he could have a second chance if he sought the King’s pardon. And that could be his only chance of survival.
He fell flat quickly before the king with tears flooding down his eyes, trembling and convulsing in fear, pleading for mercy.
So…
The King did give him a second chance. Yes. But, it was to come with a price.
What was the price?
He was going to have a performance at the city stadium amidst heavy guards. The whole city will be gathered there. Young man would have to carry a cup filled with water from one end of the stadium to the other end without a drop of the water splashing out! Wow!
But this was the only condition he was given to spare his own life.
The day came.
Young man was positioned on one end of the stadium with a cup full of water. Soldiers stationed around him, watching perfectly what becomes of him. The stadium was also filled up to its maximum capacity.
The whistle blew, and Young man begins to move with the cup in his hands.
On one side of the stadium were people who constantly criticized and abused the young man for daring to disobey the king. They raised curses and even tried to distract him so he could trip and fall. On the other side, people hailed him, chanted his name and songs of praises to him. Apparently, this is what the king had ordered the spectators to do.
But then, young man walked with caution. He took his first step, then another. He could see nothing else except what was in his hands. He could hear his heart pump blood. The breeze that passed him. The drops of wishes dripping heavily on his face. He guarded the cup with everything he was made of.
Then…
He reached his destination amidst soldiers watching him and without a drop of water splashing out of the cup!
There was a mighty jubilation in the stadium when it was announced that he was successful. The king embraced him and annulled his initial death sentence. He even showered him with lots of gifts. People were really amazed by his performance.
He was thereafter asked how he was able to achieve the feat despite immense praises and curses from spectators.
Young man said, “You people were the ones that saw me carrying water. As for me, while I was going through that test, everything I was carrying in my hands was my life. I didn’t notice people’s attitudes towards me. I just had to reach my goal with utmost focus.”
