As far as most people are concerned, only one person deserves the title ‘King of Pop’. That person is Michael Jackson. So when someone tagged Beyonce as the new King of pop, someone else raised an eyebrow. Taj Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew has come out to defend the late pop star of the title, King of pop.
As a new wave of music lovers and artistes who do not know much or anything about the rave of the late pop star, Michael Jackson, rise, the debate about who and who deserve iconic crowns in the music industry become even more tense. Fans and celebrities recently debated Chris Brown as the new King of Pop. Well, even though the different feats attained are undeniably not on the same ground, some still argue that Breezy deserves the iconic crown.
A writer went viral after crowning the BeyHive queen, Beyonce as the new and reigning King of Pop. here is what he wrote in a tweet with a link;
“I wrote about how Beyoncé became one of the defining artists of the decade, a woman who started the 2010s as a well-regarded pop star but not yet a legend,”
The writer went on to claim that queen Bey, in his opinion can now be crowned with the iconic title, King of Pop even as the decade ends.
He wrote;
“As the decade ends, Bey, in my opinion, can now credibly claim the title King of Pop.”
Well, Taj Jackson couldn’t allow this cool before picking a bat. with “The King of Pop title is not up for grabs,” Taj quickly responded;
“It was bestowed to Michael Jackson through decades of blood, sweat and tears. When Michael Jackson died, the title was cemented with him. King of Pop is synonymous with Michael Jackson, the same way The King is synonymous with Elvis.”
In Taj’s perspective, a whole bunch of other ways can be fathomed, to honour crown-deserving entertainers rather than chasing Michael Jackson’s crown. He suggested that a new title be handed to Beyonce, also adding;
“Remember there is only one Godfather of Soul. One Queen of Soul. One High Priest of Soul. And only one King of Pop. 👍🏽”
