One day, a farmer, named Claver had is donkey fall into an old well. The young animal cried piteously for several hours as Claver made all efforts to figure out what to do. But all efforts proved futile.
Claver finally concluded that the animal was old and the old well it fell into needed to be covered up anyway. At least to prevent more loss of such kind.
He got more hands to help in levelling up the well. It just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.
Each of them had a shovel. They let down soil into the well.
One, two… another after another.
At first, the donkey realized what was going on and became restless and bittered about what was to happen. Then…
To everyone’s amazement, the young donkey quieted down.
A few shovel loads go down the well.
Then Claver finally realized something really astonishing.
He looked down the well and saw that with each shovel of dirts that hit the donkey’s back, the donkey was doing something amazing. It would shake it off and take a step forward.
As the group kept shovelling dirts into the well, the donkey kept shaking it off and taking a step up.
In a moment, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!
Moral: Do not be bittered over what people do to you. Find a way to turn negative reactions to opportunities.
