There is a new tool that is gaining use in the UK for UK Facebook users that allows reporting fake adverts. This update is coming after a few reported fake Facebook adverts went viral.

Facebook’s vice president for Northern Europe, Steve Hatch explained that UK Facebook users will have the opportunity to be able to click three dots in the top corner of every advert display to be open to more options.

Right on the top of the regular ones, there will be the option to “send a detailed scam report” after choosing to “report ad” and selecting “misleading or scam ad” as the reason

Steve Hatch said:

“Scam ads are an industry-wide problem caused by criminals and have no place on Facebook.”

Well, this tool is introduced after the founder of MoneySavingsExpert website sued over his name and photo were used on a particular fake advert on Facebook.

Facebook hence, had to set up an anti-scam programme with agreed £3m which was in return for dropping the legal action. The money which now has been handed over to Citizens Advice, to build the new service to help online fraudsters victims.

There is also an available helpline setup by the charity to combat any form of online scam and not necessarily just fake adverts.

Moreso, there would be available face-to-face consultations in serious cases where a victim for instance, falls into debt or mortgage arrears.
