A bill has been recently introduced in Texas, and this bill is against women who have abortions. The newly introduced bill would criminalize all acts of abortions.
According to the bill, women who get abortions would be liable of death.
Beyond abortions, the said bill would also criminalize all acts of rape and incest. It would also make it possible to charge a woman with homicide for having the procedure, according to the Washington Post.
The Republican legislator who introduced the bill, Rep. Tony Tinderholt, says the bill would make people “consider the repercussions” of having sex.
Tinderholt said in a statement during a media interview:
“My bill simply accomplishes one goal, It brings equal treatment for unborn human beings under the law.”
The bill, which has been discussed at a hearing on Monday, is not likely to pass.
The said bill falls far outside the mainstream of the anti-abortion movement, which has generally opposed punishing women for having abortions.
The President of the anti-abortion group Americans United for Life, Catherine Glenn Foster had told Vox in any interview:
“I am absolutely appalled by any proposal that would suggest prosecuting a woman for seeking an abortion or obtaining an abortion,”
